The Troop
The Troop was written by Nick Cutter and published in January, 2013 by Gallery Books.
The Troop is an interesting horror book, actually I do not read lots of horror books while reading this book it does not scare me but I really feel disgusted at the story. The way it tells the effects and what they the tapeworms have done to humans and the worst part is the laboratory scenes.
In the laboratory they have been testing the modified tapeworms on chimpanzees. In these scenes the transformation of their bodies due to the effects of tapeworms are described in detail.
The plot is about a failed experiment for creating a medicine to cure fat people. They use a genetically modified tapeworm to eat patients’ fat and when the patient reaches expected weight they will trigger tapeworms to neutralize using another pill but somehow this part fails and the tapeworms eat out the patients until they die.
As in most stories at some point military takes control and cleans everything before it is revealed to public.
I got this book from Netgalley. Thank you, Netgalley.
The story is not bad but I prefer more characterization and entertainment in novels. I guess this story did not work on me. Probably if this story was a movie, I may like it much more.
I try to rate plot, characterization, style, setting and entertainment separately and take the average of these for overall rating. The overall rating is 2.4 which translates to “it was ok”.
