NaNoWriMo – National Novel Writing Month

For quite a long time I was not writing to hundredbooksayear.com but now it is time to start writing a blog post about novel writing. It is kind of a coincidence to write about writing.

Previously I’ve tried a few times and failed to write a novel. This year I hope to write my first novel by joining NaNoWriMo. If you do not know about NaNoWriMo, it is an abbreviation that is short for National Novel Writing Month. Every year in November lots of contributors start writing their novel in November, the main thing is to write 50K words in 30 days.

NaNoWriMo – 2016

I said it is expected to write a novel in 30 days, but this does not mean it must be a novel that is ready to be published or even does not mean it must be a complete novel. The main purpose is just writing 50K words in 30 days. If you are sure that you completed your story in 30 days then you can revise your novel otherwise if you want to write a longer novel you can continue writing your novel.

If you have ever tried writing a novel before you can understand easily, it is very difficult to start writing and NaNoWriMo is trying to break this resistance. Lots of aspiring writers have this fault or illness that trying to write the perfect novel but instead of completing a novel, they stuck on writing their first novel for lots of years and mostly they abandon writing.

There are stories about some people that they worked on the same novel for years and could not complete it, and also there are good examples from some popular authors that they’ve written around 10 novels before they published their first novel.

Everybody has a different style and career path but the main point is you need to start writing and NaNoWriMo is a good starting point for starting writing your novel.

With this blog post I’m inviting you to write your first novel with me in NaNoWriMo 2016, you do not need to be a great writer just try with me. In previous years I tried and failed but now I can see my problem easily. I tried to write a complete and perfect novel and tried hard to find a good plot, characters. I’ve worked for several days, maybe weeks to create a good plot then I failed because I spent too much time writing my first novel, actually starting my first novel, and got bored and abandoned it. This year I aim to start writing a basic Middle-Grade novel, I’ve never read Rick Riordan but probably I will try to write a very light novel compared to Rick Riordan’s Percy Jackson & the Olympians.
